Sentencing for a 21-year-old Hutchinson man convicted of aggravated endangerment of a child in one case and attempted criminal threat in the another is scheduled to be sentenced Friday.
It was back on June 13, when William Hickey was alleged to have knowingly tortured or cruelly beat a 1-year-old child. The other theory alleges that he inflicted cruel and inhumane corporal punishment on the 1-year-old. This after the child sustained injuries to her face and also her bottom.
The state contends that this was no accident, but Hickey contends that he opened a door that tends to stick and the door hit the child. Members of Hickey’s family indicate there were no marks on the child when they saw her earlier that day.
In the other case he had been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, for threatening Darrell Hickey with a knife. He was also charged with criminal threat for the same incident. That occurring back on May 17, 2012.
The first charge has a sentencing range of 5-to-13 months, while with the other charge, the range is 5-to-17-months, but it’s expected he will receive some form of probation when sentencing occurs Friday in front of Judge Tim Chambers.
