A 23-year-old Hutchinson man who was on community corrections for convictions of aggravated battery, theft, sale of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia for growing marijuana and no tax stamp was in court again Wednesday morning asking for a reduction of his bond on the four new cases.

In three of the cases, Leonardo J. Velázquez-Vieyra is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and no tax stamp. The first complaint is alleged to have occurred on June 21, the second on August 29, and the third on September 7. The final case involves a charge of being in possession of drug proceeds.

Appearing via-video from the Reno County Jail, he argued that he thought the 175-thousand dollar bond should be reduced stating he thought the bonds were excessive and unfair. When the formal charges were read to him back on December 23, he stated he wanted to continue working, plus take care of his kids. But, Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen stuck by what he stated last time that he agreed with the state that the bonds were appropriate. That made the defendant angry and he hung up the phone in the jail on the judge.

The state had previously stated that he had 3-pounds of pot in one case, and over a pound in each of the other cases.

There’s also a motion to revoke his community corrections for the 2006 and 2009 cases pending. He’s been on corrections since he was sentenced back in July by Judge Tim Chambers. The motion to revoke case will be brought before Judge Tim Chambers on January 13.
