A 69-year-old Hutchinson man avoided trial scheduled for this week and entered a no contest pleas to three counts of aggravated soliciation of a child, while the state drops 6-other counts including rape, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, and three counts of aggravated intimidation of witness or victim.

Some of the charges against Don Adams fell under Jessica’s Law provisions which could have meant life with no parole for 25-years. But, with the no contest plea, he could conceivably be placed on some form of probation. The sentencing guidelines call for a sentencing range of 31 to 136 months, or two and half years to just over 11-years in prison, but it appears he may fall in a border box, meaning the judge has the option of ordering prison time or some form of probation.

The three victims in the case pointed the finger at Adams as the one who molested them while they were visiting his home on the east side of Hutchinson. The three little girls, ranged in age from 7- to-11 years of age at the time of the alleged crimes and occurred between June 1, 2008, and December 3, 2009 here in Hutchinson.

The two families were neighbors with Adams and his wife often looking after the girls, even allowing them to spend the night. The girls say the abuse occurring in Don Adams bedroom and also his living room, but one girl stated it happened in the cab of his semi, which he would park next to his home.

With the plea Monday, Adams will be sentenced during a special setting on March 16, which was requested by the defense.
