HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A local man was back in court Wednesday morning to hear the charges read for allegedly stealing items from what was his work place.

Michael Windom is charged with felony theft and two counts of making false writings.

He was employed at Sonoco of Hutchinson and was allegedly stealing red brass rings with bearings inside that they use in a piece of equipment. They had some new and used ones and discovered they had none when they needed to replace one with the piece of equipment. That is when they called police. The value is alleged to have been between $1,500 to $25,000.

Windom was allegedly taking them to Midwest Iron and Metal and exchanging them for cash. Police were allegedly able to trace the thefts to Windom through the paperwork he filled out at Midwest Iron. He may have gone there as many as 13 times.

Police, along with management at Sonoco, confronted him over the thefts, which led to his arrest.

In court, he informed the judge that he is no longer employed and his case now moves to a waiver-status docket.
