HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 27-year-old man appeared Monday in Reno County District Court after his arrest just over a week ago.

Arthur A. Pina has been formally charged with aggravated kidnapping, battery-domestic violence, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia with intent to sell. Count one alone is a level one felony with a maximum sentence of over 50 years.

The victim alleges that she was with Pina and they apparently got into some type of argument and she wanted to leave his vehicle and alleges he refused to let her go. She was apparently, at some point, able to escape and make the report.

When police made contact with Pina, they discovered the drugs and paraphernalia and allege it was a seller’s quantity. This occurred just before 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.

With the formal charges filed, the case moves to a waiver-status docket in front of Judge Joe McCarville on Dec. 2.

He has convictions out of both Reno and Sherman Counties. That includes the sale of drugs within a thousand feet of a school, cultivation of drugs, possession of a precursor to manufacture and endangerment of a child. Those convictions are out of Reno County. He also has convictions for distribution of drugs and possession of drugs for a case out of Sherman County.
