HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 31-year-old Hutchinson man looking at serving 20-years in prison was before District Judge Trish Rose Friday morning over a motion to revoke his community corrections. Matthew Mounce apparently didn’t like the fact that she was ordering him to jail because of him failing to report to his corrections officer twice after she told him to do so.

Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton says Mounce ran from the courtroom and he confronted him as he entered the elevator to go downstairs. Mounce looked at him and asked, “why are you doing this to me?” Then the doors closed.

Stanton says he yelled down the stairway to stop the man coming down on the elevator. Reno County Sheriff Sgt. Troy Selby and two security guards who will be manning the new secure entrance managed to get Mounce into custody.

Stanton told us he hoped he didn’t hurt his leg after recent surgery by running after Mounce. He says Mounce could be looking at a new charge of aggravated escape from custody.

Mounce is facing an evidentiary hearing over the motion to revoke his community corrections from crimes in 2011 including unlawful manufacture of meth, sale of drugs, possession of drugs, having a precursor for the manufacture of meth and harassment by phone. He hadn’t reported to his corrections officer since Nov. of 2015.

He’s now being held without bond.
