HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 32-year-old ex-con who entered pleas after his arrest at Walmart last year for being in possession of meth, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, all with intent to distribute, was scheduled for sentencing Friday, but that has been continued because he was not transported from the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Jerry L. Mahan II was sitting on a bench at Walmart and left a black case on the bench as he left. Someone found it and turned it in to customer service. They noticed that the contents didn’t look legal, so when Mahan came back to claim the case, police were called in. The case allegedly contained the meth and cocaine, both at least 3.5 grams, but less than 100 grams. That was on June 21, 2015.

Mahan managed to post bond in this case, but then absconded and was eventually arrested on warrant. That was on Jan. 3.

When sentencing occurs, it will be in front of Judge Trish Rose.
