HUTCHINSON, Kan. — What started off with misdemeanor charges has become more serious for a 31-year-old man.

Richard Manwarren II is now charged with aggravated battery in a domestic case. Other charges include aggravated battery domestic violence and interference with law enforcement.

The case itself started early in the morning on May 6 when police were called to a home in Hutchinson for a domestic dispute. At that time, Manwarren was arrested on two misdemeanor charges. According to statements made in court Wednesday, the state refiled the charges as felonies because of the severity of the victim’s injuries.

The first count alone is presumptive prison according to Magistrate Judge Daniel Gilligan.

Manwarren also faces a possible charge of burglary for breaking into a vehicle. He was arrested for failing to appear in an earlier battery case.

Bond in the cases was set at $16,600. His request for a reduction was denied because the latest charges involve violence.
