HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 31-year-old man already serving time for a conviction of aggravated battery from 2011 was ordered to serve just over 10 years for 11 charges, the most serious being possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Francisco Castaneda waived his right to a preliminary hearing and entered pleas to all the charges.

The state argued for prison time, while the defense argued for community corrections. However, Judge Trish Rose noted that Castaneda had 11 priors, including an aggravated battery case. The state also noted that he was caught with weapons, one of which was stolen.

The charges stem from two cases. One goes back to Feb. 20 for possession of drugs and stolen property — a Dodge Journey. The other charges, including a distribution charge, are from an arrest on March 25.

Judge Rose did agree to run the new sentence concurrent with the one he’s serving now.
