HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 21-year-old Hutchinson man with previous convictions is back in jail.

Deven Ratzlaff who told Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen that he’s on community corrections is now accused of burglary, theft, possession of drugs and criminal damage to property after he and 30-year-old Jeffrey Yeakel allegedly broke into a vehicle and stole items, including drugs.

On Saturday, a Reno County man reported that his vehicle had been broken into and his brothe-in-law noticed a truck a half mile away with two men asleep inside. Sheriff investigators detained the two and they were then arrested after law enforcement compared shoe marks at the burglary scene with the shoes being worn by the two men. The two men apparently had methamphetamine, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia in their truck.

In court, Ratzlaff requested a reduction of his bond, but Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell objected because of his previous history. Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen agreed and left the bond at $20,250.

Yeakel was also arrested, but managed to make bond. He should make an appearance at a later date.

Ratzlaff has previous crimes of forgery and burglary, while Yeakel has previous convictions for possession of drugs in cases from Rice County.
