The preliminary hearing for a 26-year-old Hutchinson man over four cases was continued Tuesday because of a change of lawyers.

Christopher Ford had been assigned a lawyer from the Regional Public Defenders Office, but now its apparently come to light that there may be some type of conflict with that office. So, Judge Joe McCarville assigned Luann Trummel with the Hutchinson Legal Clinic to represent him. That means she needs time to be brought up to speed on the case. So, the hearing has now been rescheduled for May 30, at 10:30 a-m.

Ford was arrested back in February for being in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, but was also at a home where he had been ordered not to go to, resulting in a charge of criminal trespass. This occurring in the 500 block of East 9th.

But, he was also arrested on two warrants for two cases going back to January. One charges him with interference with law enforcement and flee and elude when he ran from a Reno County Sheriff’s Deputy. That was on January 7.

The third case charges him with criminal possession of firearm and leaving the scene of an accident on January 15. The criminal possession of firearm charge was because it’s illegal for him to have a weapon because of previous felony convictions.

He’s been on community corrections for a charge of theft from 1994, possession of drugs from 2009, and a burglary case from 2010. According to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Also arrested in February was 18-year-old Michelle Morgan for interference with law enforcement.
