We’ll have to wait a little longer to learn whether a 25-year-old Hutchinson man convicted of abuse of a child in a shaking baby case from 2007 sees his community corrections in the case revoked.

Matthew Bishop was convicted for shaking a three-month-old child on November 23, 2007. The child was initially taken to Promise Regional Medical Center and then transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Doctors in Wichita began to suspect abuse, not only because of brain damage to the child, but also because of the indication of other older injuries.

Bishop was sentenced to 41-months, but then granted 36-months community corrections, by now retired Judge Richard Rome.

The state is now asking that the corrections be revoked because of a conviction in Missouri where Bishop was sentenced to serve four-years in prison. He was convicted of being in possession of a firearm, and illegally taking wildlife. That was on June 7, of this year, in Clark County, Missouri.

The state sought a bench warrant for the corrections violation last summer, however, he was arrested on the warrant until last month.

Bishop at one time was also charged with aggravated battery where he was accused of attacking another man as he was riding his moped, but that case was dismissed by the state.

The hearing over whether his community corrections should be revoked was continued till next Thursday at 4 p-m because to give time for his public defender to visit with Bishop over the states motion.
