The 23-year-old man who was allegedly involved in a police chase on December 6 was scheduled to be in court Thursday, but that was continued because the state indicated that they may revise the charges to a higher level.

Jason Thiel is now charged with two counts of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, felony flee and elude, interference with law enforcement, two counts of criminal damage, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended and no proof of insurance. But again, some of those charges could be changed. Judge Joe McCarville continued the case until March 28.

The case starts with a Hutchinson woman reporting her car stolen several days prior to this incident. Police then spotted the vehicle at 11th & Plum, and when officers tried to stop the vehicle, Thiel allegedly drove off with police then in pursuit. They say they lost his vehicle around 11th & Cleveland, but spotted it again at 4th & Maple. The chase then started again until he allegedly drove into a parking lot, when police say he then rammed two police cruisers and attempted to run over officer Terry Martin. He then left the parking lot, but eventually he and his passenger Bryson Allen jumped from the moving vehicle. The passenger managed to get away, but Thiel was arrested and taken to jail.

He’s no stranger to law enforcement with previous convictions for aiding a felon, obstruction, and theft.

It’s the incident that involved officer Martin that may change one of the charges against Thiel, but no specific charge was mentioned on the record.
