Hutch Man’s Trial In Child Sex Case Underway

Salvador Raujo Guiterrez 3

The trial for a 24-year-old Hutchinson man charged in a child sexual abuse case is underway in front of Judge Tim Chambers.

Salvador Araujo-Gutierrez is accused of the alleged sexual abuse of a young girl occurring between 2006 and 2011. The incidents occurring when the child was first 7-years-old and continued till she was 11.

The actual testimony started with Dr. Jane Holzricter with Horizon’s Mental Health Center taking the stand where she testified over an interview she did with the child after the alleged abuse came to light. The state also showed a video of that interview where the child talked and showed the doctor how the alleged sexual abuse occurred. This included the various locations where it alleged happened.

Salvador Araujo-Gutierrez had been charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, and three alternate counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, but District Attorney Keith Schroeder amended the complaint making the first three counts as rape, with the indecent liberties counts being the alternate counts to rape. All of the charges fall under Jessica’s Law meaning he could be looking at multiple life sentences if convicted.

The trial continues Wednesday in Reno County District Court.
