Hutch Rec hosting special events Thursday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Thursday is a busy day for Hutch Rec, with the World’s Largest Swim Lesson at Salt City Splash Aquatic Center in the morning, followed by the Smallville Festival presented by First National Bank throughout Downtown Hutchinson in the evening.

You are invited to be part of history in the making at Salt City Splash on Thursday with the World’s Largest Swim Lesson. Participants will receive a free, 30-minute swim lesson focused on various swim skills and water safety.

This event is free and no RSVP is necessary; simply show up to sign in at 8:30 a.m. The lesson starts shortly after. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

The community is also invited to celebrate the Smallville Festival — a community celebration presented by First National Bank and organized by Hutch Rec.

The Smallville Festival coincides with Third Thursday events taking place along Main Street between Avenue B through 2nd Avenue. More than 30 art/music/community vendors, organizations, and businesses will be set up from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Additional featured events for Smallville include:

5:30-7 p.m.: Runway show & art auction at the Hutchinson Art Center, benefitting the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center.

6:30-7:30 p.m.: Street Dance, featuring classic rock band Artifact (first set) at 1st & Main.

7 p.m.: Super Hero Costume Contest for all ages at DCI Park, 2nd & Main.

7:45 p.m.: Smallville Proclamation and National Anthem, DCI Park.

8-9:15 p.m.: Smallville 5K & Super Hero 1-mile races throughout Downtown Hutchinson, start/finish at DCI Park (1-mile starts at 8 p.m.; 5K starts at 8:30 p.m.)

8:15-9:30 p.m.: Street Dance with Artifact (second set) at 1st & Main.

5-10 p.m.: Beer Garden in front of Carl’s Bar, near 1st & Main.
