The Hutchinson Schools Board Monday formally said goodbye to a pair of members.

Betty Garcia, board member since 1999, and Joe Fangman, board member since 2009, opted not to run for reelection this spring. Garcia has worked with five superintendents during her tenure on the board. Fangman has worked with three.

Fangman reflected on his years as a board member during opening comments June 10. Garcia took her turn, reflecting on 14-years as a board member in opening comments Monday.

Stephanie King and Tad Dower will be sworn in as new board members at the body’s July 8 meeting. The two were elected in April.

Monday’s meeting also was the final for Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeanne Stroh. Dr. Stroh will become the superintendent of Ottawa schools on July 1.

Also during Monday’s meeting, Superintendent Dr. Shelly Kiblinger updated the board on a new principal evaluation tool. The tool examines several competencies for principals in the areas of leadership, the use of data, curriculum and instruction, staff and community and resources and operations.

She also updated the board on the elementary school transfer process. For the past two years, the district has limited transfers of students who live in one elementary attendance area to another. The updated process is designed to be more consistent in application of the transfer guidelines.
