The 17-year-old convicted of being involved with numerous church burglaries saw his Community Corrections revoked. Judge Tim Chambers then ordered Joshua Hickey to prison, however, he did give Hickey a little bit of a break, he ran the sentences concurrent to each other knocking the sentence down from 32-months to 16.

He had been sentenced back in November to the 32-months in prison, but then granted 24-months community corrections. He then violated his corrections, but Judge Chambers granted him a second chance on corrections after serving a 30-day sanction,

Seven hours after being released from jail, he then allegedly broke into a local store and two churches. That included burglaries of Dillon’s 1319 North Main, Trinity United Methodist church, 1602 N. Main and the First Church of Christ Scientist located at 1400 N. Main.

He’s charged with 3 counts of burglary, 1 count of arson, 2 counts of criminal damage, 1 count of felony criminal damage, 3 counts of misdemeanor theft, 3 counts of contributing to a child’s misconduct or deprivation, 1 count of unlawful possession of a prescription, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. But, he has the presumption of innocence in this new case and no probable cause has been made on whether that case should go to trial.

Judge Chambers says that Hickey was basically set up to loose, and told the teen that he isn’t happy with what he’s doing sending him to prison. He says he wishes the Labette County boot camp was still open because that would have given him another option.

The fact that Hickey is 17 causes some problems, and has no family support, and because of his age, the local homeless shelter can’t help him.

The new case is still pending a preliminary hearing.
