A 24-year-old Hutchinson woman charged with several felonies after an incident back on June 1, was in court this afternoon for a preliminary hearing in the case where she was bound over for trial with an added count.

24-year-old Kayla Elizabeth Salyer-Rodriquez now faces charges of aggravated battery, aggravated kidnapping, two counts of criminal threat and aggravated assault.

The victim in the case testified that she was with the defendant and two other women at a local club and the defendant became angry at one of the other women, threatening to take a gun she had in the glove box and shoot her. Apparently, two of the women were slow getting into the vehicle when they were Vic’s. The two had stopped to watch a fight apparently involving Dustin Hippen.

Several times, she threatened one of the women saying she would get a gun in the glove box of her vehicle and shoot her.

When they got back to the Ridgewood Apartments, the victim managed to allow the other two women to get away including the one that had been threatened, but then Salyer kicked the victim and she fell from the vehicle. It was then that she then put a gun at the temple of the victims head and forced her into her apartment. At one point she told the victim. “You’re not so tough now, are you bitch?”

Once inside the apartment, Salyer’s father asked her what she was doing, and he then grabbed the gun after she placed it down.

The victim was finally able to escape after saying she would go see where the police are. She had apparently called 911 several times. But, she also told the court of being struck in the head with the handle of the gun as well.

Police got involved around 2 a.m., that morning at the Ridgewood Apartments at 32nd Terrace and Garden Grove Parkway. Police had gotten word that Kayla and her father Paul Salyer were still held up in the apartment, but were for a longtime unable to be reached. Police used a loud speaker to try to get their attention and make contact, and they eventually came out without incident.

With her being bound over for trial, arraignment in the case will come in early November.

You may recall that Salyer-Rodriquez was the intended victim of Charles Logsdon and Billy Craig Jr. They both face trial for murder for the killing of Jennifer Heckel who they apparently thought was Salyer-Rodriquez.
