Three dominant home victories helped the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team move up two spots in the first regular-season rankings, which were released on Monday.
The 3-0 Blue Dragons moved up to No. 7, jumping two spots from their No. 9 preseason rankings.
The Dragons have defeated the Washburn JV (65-34), No. 17 Western Nebraska (65-59) and NEO (74-46). Hutchinson will play host to Hesston College on Tuesday before going on the road to meet Labette and Jefferson College this weekend at the Cougar Booster Club Classic in Great Bend.
Defending national champion Gulf Coast State remains the No. 1 team in the nation. South Plains, Trinity Valley, Northwest Florida State and Seward County.
The only other Jayhawk Conference team in the Top 25 is Butler (4-2) at No. 12. Cowley is receiving votes.
The only other non-league nationally ranked opponent in the Top 25 this week is New Mexico Junior College. The Thunderbirds are No. 10. Hutch NMJC will play on November 21 in Council Bluffs, IA.
The Blue Dragons have been ranked in 22 consecutive rankings and for the 123rd poll in the last 128 ranking periods.
