Hutchinson City Council approves agenda items Tuesday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – No surprise at the Hutchinson City Council meeting Tuesday morning. On a majority vote, they approved the request from USD 308, the Hutchinson School District to erect lighting at Don Michael Field at 17th & Severance.

The school district wants to add lighting to the field so can hold games and other activities in the evening hours. The Planning Commission had recommended the approval.

The lighting is part of a $4-million dollar renovation to improve district athletic facilities.

The proposal to also add lights at the soccer fields and adjacent baseball fields at 23rd & Cleveland will be considered at a later time.

The council also approved the contract with WSP Engineering at a cost of just under $70,000 for the Washington Street Bike Blvd.

The first section of the bike lanes will be constructed between 17th and 23rd and will include an asphalt overlay with proper markings.

The total cost of the project is $363,000 with the city responsible for $91,000 along with the engineering cost.
