Hutchinson City Council Approves Agreement With HCC As Well As New Refuse Rates

After the Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees recently approved a lease with the city of Hutchinson for property on the Hutchinson Fire Department Fire grounds for construction of the Fire Science building, the city of Hutchinson followed suit at their meeting Tuesday.

The building would be built adjacent to the city’s Fire Training Facility at 3201 East 4th. The program currently exist on the colleges south campus near Yoder.

The plan is to build a 20-thousand square foot building and parking for around 75 cars. The building would house classrooms, offices and meeting space for the program. Plans are for the facility to be completed in about 2 years, once construction begins.

City officials believe that sharing equipment and facilities will have a positive impact on the city and college program.

The city also as expected approved refuse rates in Hutchinson going up by 30-cents a year during the meeting Tuesday.

The single poly-cart rates for residential customers will go from the current rate of $10.05 to $10.35 next year, $10.65 in 2014 and $10.95 in 2015. Commercial service will go from the current $10.75 per-month to $11.05 in 2013, $11.35 in 2014 and $11.65 in 2015.

The next City Council meeting will be on January 2, which is a Wednesday because of the New Year’s Holiday falling on a Tuesday this year.
