HUTCHINSON, Kan. — More than 400 EMS personnel and other emergency responders ascended onto the Kansas State Fairgrounds for the annual Hutchinson Community College Field Ops Exercise Tuesday.

The exercise also brought students from 11 different colleges to help teach future employees. Unfortunately, the weather won out as the threat of severe weather across the state forced the exercise to end early. It also kept the LifeTeam and EagleMed aircraft from participating.

During the exercise, 14 different scenarios were set up for emergency personnel to respond to including active shooter situations. Ambulances were stationed at the Encampment Building and dispatched to various areas of the fairgrounds. The exercise covered everything from 911 communications all the way to a triage unit set up by nursing personnel in a hospital emergency room setting.

Hutchinson Community College is the only school that conducts this type of full-scale field ops exercise.
