
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Fire units responded to the 300 block of Justice just after 12:30 p.m. Thursday for a reported structure fire. The initial call came in as a residential fire alarm with the arriving units finding light smoke and requesting a first alarm assignment.
The fire originated in the kitchen area of the home with smoke and fire damage in adjoining areas. No residents were home at the time of the call, however, three pets were found during the search-and-rescue procedure, with one unable to revive. Fire damage is estimated at $35,000.
Hutchinson Fire Department responded with six fire units.
Then, around 2:40 p.m., they responded to the 5400 Block of North Halstead for a structure fire caused by a lightning strike. Arriving units found the incident to be isolated to the electrical boxes of the home, canceling additional responding units. Both Westar and a local electrician arrived to address the situation.
Hutchinson Fire Department responded six fire units, with no injuries reported.
