HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 46-year-old Hutchinson man was arrested around 10:30 a.m. Sunday for allegedly entering a home and battering three residents who were in that home.

Michael Meeks faces potential charges of aggravated kidnapping, three counts of aggravated burglary, battery and battery-domestic violence. He’s alleged to have battered two of the victims by choking them, this in the 300 block of West 14th.

He’s then alleged to have forced a female victim into his truck where he apparently took her to the Wichita area. Sedgwick County Sheriff Deputies allegedly found him at a residence in Haysville, according to police.

He requested a bond reduction, telling the judge that none of it happened and that the victims were drug dealers. The judge denied his request in part because of the nature of the charges as well as his prior criminal history where he’s required to register as a violent offender.

He has prior convictions for two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, criminal restraint in a case from 2012. He still claimed in court Monday that he had a cell phone in his hand and not a shotgun as claimed by law enforcement in that case. He also has prior convictions for a violation of a protective order and flee and elude for a separate case also from 2012.

Bond in the new case is set at $137,500 and he should appear again on Feb. 29 for the reading of formal charges.
