HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 51-year-old man faces a possible charge of arson after police were called to the 400 block of East Sherman on the report of suspicious activity around 4:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
When they arrived, they saw flames coming from a storm drain at the corner of Sherman and Elm. The fire department was called and they allegedly found some matches that matched some found in the pocket of 51-year-old Edward Love.
In court, Love claims he simply threw a cigarette in the drain and that there was no intent to start a fire.
His bond set at $5,000 and he should be back in court next Monday to see of the state has filed any formal charge.
