A 25-year-old Hutchinson man finds himself facing a very serious charge after he reported to police that he sexually abused a 3-month-old child.

Michael Sherman is charged with aggravated sodomy and is jailed on a 50-thousand dollar bond. The arrest coming about 12:40 a-m Monday morning.

According to Police Lt. Marty Robertson, Sherman was alone with the child and was watching pornography on his cell phone. He apparently became aroused and then sodmized the child.

The charge is considered a Jessica’s Law offense meaning he could be looking at a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25-years.

Sherman made a first appearance on the charge Monday where his bond was left the same, 50-thousand dollars. He’ll be back in court on Wednesday, once the state files formal charges.

If he makes bond, he’ll be required to stay away from the the victim and the family of the victim. In fact, the grandfather of the victim was in court and wanted to make sure that Sherman doesn’t come near his family again. Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen assured him that wouldn’t happen.
