WICHITA – A 39-year-old Hutchinson man who was charged in District Court in a drug case from last summer was indicted this week on federal charges in association with the same case, meaning the state charges will be dropped.

Raymond J. Hickman is now charged by the feds with one count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, one count of unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

The crimes are alleged to have occurred back on June 22, 2011.

The case centers on a drug related search warrant being served at his home and during that search, officers allegedly found about 11-grams of crack in the master bedroom, and in a kitchen cabinet. They also reportedly found digital scales along with a box of sandwich bags.

In a vehicle at the home, there was allegedly another 14-grams of crack along with a revolver- handgun.

Its’ unlawful for him to have the gun because of previous convictions which include aggravated assault, theft, possession of drugs and attempted criminal possession of a firearm. Those convictions out of Wyandotte County.

If he’s convicted of the possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, he could face a maximum penalty of 20-years, plus another 5-years for unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and a maximum of 10-years, if convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.
