A 20-year-old Hutchinson man convicted and sentenced for attempting to rob a used car dealership back on June 27 was back in court Tuesday on a new charge.

Zachary Thompson had entered a plea to attempted aggravated robbery, and the state dropped the second charge of aggravated assault. He also entered a plea to aggravated battery for a case where he allegedly struck someone with a board. He was given 36-months community corrections for the two cases back in November, after he serves 60-days in the county jail. But, the underlying sentence is 42-months.

But, now the state has filed another criminal complaint against him for aggravated endangerment of a child for allegedly putting a 10-month-old in danger back May 12, 2011. that charge is a level 9 felony which could see him sent to prison yet, if convicted.

The charges involving the dealership came after he reportedly pulled a knife on an employee of K-96 Auto Sales at 804 West 5th, and demanding cash, even though no money or property was ever given to him. After they refused, he then left on foot. He was spotted a few blocks away and he was placed under arrest. He had changed his clothing shedding the black hoodie he had been reportedly wearing at the time of the robbery.

He was in court Wednesday for the formal reading of the new charge, and the case will now be placed on the waiver-status docket for future hearings.
