A 19-year-old Hutchinson man convicted in a series of car burglaries involving vehicles belonging to law enforcement, public officials or their family members and other area citizens will spend over four and half years in prison.

Sheridan Kiraly was found guilty earlier this year of 14-counts of auto burglary and one count of conspiracy to commit auto burglary in the case involving law enforcement officers and others including two judges. He also entered pleas in two other cases, both involving incidents in the Reno County Jail.

In one case, he entered a plea for aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, and criminal threat. On September 1, 2011, he was in the process of being put in a restraint chair because of acting up, when he allegedly threatened a deputy, saying he’s going to stab him, when he gets out of the chair, then spit in the deputies face.

The other case has to do with an incident on October 8, of last year, when Kiraly and some other inmates caused the toilets in the main jail to overflow causing the water to seep through the floor, damaging ceiling tiles in the offices below.

Kiraly was convicted in the vehicle burglary case after his arrest along with 21-year-old Victor Smith and 18-year-old Madison Smalling. The burglaries occurring last summer mainly over the 4th of July weekend.

He was sentenced to a total of 56-months in prison for the three cases.

Smalling entered a plea in the case against her and is currently on probation, while Smith still awaits trial in this case, and as well as two others.
