HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 23-year-old man finds himself in some serious trouble with the state filing charges against him in a child sex case.

Tanner Ward is charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, aggravated burglary and criminal threat.

The sexual charges are alleged to have occurred on two dates, Jan. 9 and again on Jan. 11. The alleged sexual incidents involved a child 14 to 16 years of age.

The aggravated burglary is alleged to have occurred on June 23 where he allegedly went into a home in the 100 block of East 5th with what the state says was to intimidate a victim or a sexually motivated crime.

The final charge of criminal threat is alleged to have occurred on Feb. 15, 2016, where he allegedly threatened to cut another person’s head off.

This case will move to a future waiver-status docket.

He was also read other charges for a crime involving burglary where he allegedly stole some copper pipes from the construction site at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, then took the pipes to Midwest Iron and Metal and sold them for cash. In doing so, he apparently signed papers saying the items were his.

He’ll be back in court in this case to see if the state has filed formal charges.

In court, Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen set bond in the child sex case at $35,000 and burglary case at $500.

Ward is currently on community corrections for a burglary conviction from last year.
