As expected, formal charges have been filed against a Hutchinson man after a two vehicle crash in Harvey County killed one and critically injured another.

Harvey County Attorney David Yoder has charged Brian Reed with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery and battery on a correction’s officer.

Reed was arrested after he ran a stop sign at the intersection of West 1st and Ridge Road about three miles west of Newton.

His vehicle struck another driven by 52-year-old Donald Nickles of Hesston. A passenger in Nickles vehicle, 28-year-old Jessi Stroup of Alton, Kansas was killed. Nickles was taken to Wesley Medical Center listed in critical condition.

Reed was not injured and arrested by the Highway Patrol after the accident. He’s being held in the Harvey County Jail on a bond of 100-hundred thousand dollars. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for August 31st.
