HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 39-year-old man arrested on June 28 after he allegedly ran from Hutchinson Police Detective Dean Harcrow has been formally charged.

Kelly Bryan Stowell is accused of riding his bike away from the officer after they pulled into what they thought might be a drug deal in progress. They repeatedly asked him to stop, but he refused. He then, at one point, ditched the bike and ran on foot, eventually going into a home in the 300 block of East Sherman.

He claimed earlier that he knew the residents, but they told police they didn’t know him and he is alleged to have pushed one of them, and punched another in the arm. He was allegedly in the basement of this residence and was taken into custody.

He allegedly had two pink Ziploc bags of methamphetamine, according statements made in court.

Charges include aggravated burglary, battery, possession of methamphetamine and interference with law enforcement.

He is free on bond and his case now moves to a waiver-status docket.
