The 33-year-old Hutchinson man arrested in a domestic violence case and charged with aggravated battery was granted a mental evaluation by Judge Joe McCarville.

Dwayne Chronister of 715 Brookside was in court Monday for what was supposed to be a preliminary hearing when the defense asked for the mental examination at Horizon’s Mental Health Center in Hutchinson.

Chronister faces charges of aggravated battery-domestic violence. In the alternative, he’s charged with “abuse of a child” for the beating of a 16-year-old. Count three is also a charge of “abuse of a child” for the beating of another teen. One of the teens apparently suffered severe injuries to the face, including the need for stitches. The final count against Chronister is a misdemeanor count of domestic battery.

With the defense being granted a mental evaluation, the case will be on hold pending the outcome.
