A 27-year-old Hutchinson man was arrested Sunday morning after a Hutchinson police officer attempted to stop him on a traffic issue and he apparently attempted to flee, only to wreck the vehicle after a half a block chase.

Robert Leonard Hill of 2900 Acres Road, Apt. 118, is charged with aggravated assault, felony obstruction, felony flee and elude, and driving while suspended, an alleged habitual violator.

Officer Jamie Schoenhoff attempted to stop Hill who the fled in his vehicle, turning into an alley, where he then crash behind a home in the 200 block of East 8th. He then allegedly ran from the vehicle, but was caught two houses down. Police say he then picked up a shovel and threw it at the officer, but the officer was able to get out of the way. He then threw other yard ornaments, but again missed. He was then taken into custody without further incident.

He made a court appearance Monday morning, where he was read the charges, and bond was set at 11-thousand dollars.

He’ll be back in court on Wednesday in this case for a status hearing. That gives the state time to decide what charges will be filed in the case.

They later had Hill back before the court via a video hookup from the county jail, on a previous arrest going back to February 20, where he’s charged with a number of misdemeanor offenses including possession of marijuana, possession of synthetic cannabinoid, driving while a habitual violator, a second offense, and interference with law enforcement.

He was more concerned about money taken from him at the time of that arrest, 463-dollars that he wanted given to his wife, but Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen didn’t seem to concerned about that now. He had a bond of 6-thousand, 250-dollars in that case, and there is some indication that his bonding agent may wish to be taken off the bond.

The judge set at May 3rd court hearing in that case to see where they proceed.
