A third time is apparently a charm. A 31-year-old Hutchinson man arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting incident back on February 26 was granted a bond reduction by Judge Tim Chambers, the third time he’s made the request.

Justin Gleason is suspected as being the shooter and will face trial on seven counts of criminal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and one count of aggravated battery.

His attorney, Kelly Driscoll argued that the bond is to high in light of the charges saying those accused of much higher levels of felonies have lower bonds. But, Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell says he believes the bond is appropriate saying the defendant fired 14-rounds at the home in the south part of the city where 7-people had gathered, including two kids. One man had to have surgery to remove a bullet from his foot.

Judge Chambers says he doubts he would have set the bond at 500-hundred thousand, but would have set it high enough where the defendant wouldn’t be able to get out. He called it a moot point, but did agree to lower it to 200-hundred thousand. The bond reduction had been denied twice by Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen.

In a separate case, Gleason faces charges of attempted robbery, attempted aggravated burglary, criminal threat and blackmail, aggravated burglary, robbery, and aggravated battery. On December 14 and 15, of last year, he allegedly sent text messages to the victim and told him he better have additional money, and was coming over to collect. He faces trial in this case as well.

He’s also faces drug charges including possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a firearm, no tax stamp, possession of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Allegedly drugs were found in the small home he lived in. The case is still awaiting a preliminary hearing.
