HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The new Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Intensive Care Unit is almost complete — ahead of schedule and below budget — according to hospital officials.

The circular design of the new facility is something other facilities are now looking at.

Joann Rivera, a nurse and Director of the ICU, said staff members were allowed to offer input on the design:

 

Wes Hoyt, Chief Operating Officer for the hospital system, says the project is five months ahead of schedule. He credits Nabholz Corporation, the general contractor, for getting the work done ahead of schedule and under budget:

 

The total cost was $23 million. The Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation donated $4 million to the ICU project.

An open house will be held Aug. 16. The staff will move into the facility shortly after the open house.
