Hutchinson rises over Butler

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 8 Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons defeated the No. 6 Butler Community College Grizzlies in Saturday night’s game 77-61.

The Dragons started strong with a nine point lead, but the Grizzlies fought back and managed to tie the game 18-18 at the end of the first quarter.

Hutchinson’s Lauryn Mapusua nailed a 3-pointer with 3:50 left in the second quarter for a 33-27 lead over Butler.

The Dragons quickly grabbed points as Makayla Vannett rung the bell from the 3-point range not even a minute into the third quarter to lead 43-35. Hutchinson kept their lead to finish off the quarter with 57-48 against Butler.

Hutchinson’s Jada Mickens started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and advanced the score to 60-48. Mickens finished off the night with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Dejanae Roebuck had a putback right after Mickens for two more points on the Dragons. Roebuck was the top player in Saturday’s game with 17 points and six rebounds.

The Dragons finished the game strong to take over the Grizzlies 77-61 for their 11th straight win.

Hutchinson Community College travels to Concordia to take on Cloud County Community College Wednesday at 6 p.m.
