The Hutchinson School Board Monday learned that district enrollment is up slightly for the 2013-14 school year.

During her superintendent’s report, Dr. Shelly Kiblinger told the board enrollment was down at the elementary level by 33 students, up by 13 students at Hutchinson Middle School and up by 63 students at Hutchinson High School for a net increase of 47 students.

Putting the enrollment numbers through the state school finance formula, the district expects to see a net increase of about $169,000 for 2013-14 over last year.

The district will see its enrollment audited by the Kansas State Department of Education early next year.

Also Monday, the board took a tour of the new facilities at the Salthawk Sports Complex at 23rd and Severance.

The new facility replaces a circa 1940’s pole barn on the property that was used only for storage. The building, which is nearing completion, provides a place for teams to dress, restrooms, a concession area and storage.

Originally purchased in the 1970s for a possible new junior high school, the complex has been used for soccer and baseball since the 1990s.

Three organizations, Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Middle School and Hutchinson Community College use the complex for home soccer games. Teams playing at the facility either come dressed out for the game or change into uniforms on their buses.
