The Hutchinson Public Schools Monday approved sending proposed legislation to House Speaker Mike O’Neal, a Hutchinson Republican, which would create a city-sponsored independent Hutchinson Recreation Commission.

The Hutchinson School Board in a letter asks O’Neal, to sponsor legislation to transition the Hutchinson Recreation Commission from a school-district-sponsored recreation commission to a city-sponsored independent commission. The move will broaden the property tax base of the commission. Geographically, it moves the taxing base from 14 square miles to about 22 square miles.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the board approved designating Superintendent Shelly Kiblinger, Executive Director of Fiscal Management and Business Operations Lori Blakesley and Board Clerk Molly Carson as district representatives to have access to the district’s safety deposit box at First National Bank.

They also approved a discovery audit for the Technology Department. The audit will review the district’s Technology Department and make recommendations for improving it, and approved the accounts payable report for December 2011, and the treasurer’s report for November 2011.

They also reviewed the district integrated improvement plan, approved operational expectation No. 6 – Financial Administration, approved an out-of-state student activity trip, planned a student linkage event at Hutchinson High School, which will be Jan. 24, and.held an executive session for 15 minutes to discuss employer-employee negotiations and non-elected personnel.
