HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After taking a year off from the formal superintendent search process, members of the USD 308 Hutchinson School Board met with staff from the group that will help the district find its next superintendent Monday.

Gary Sechrist and Craig Wilford from the Kansas Association of School Boards talked with the board about the process. On Nov. 8 and 26, KASB will be getting input from staff and community members about the type of individual they would like to see leading the district as superintendent.

Superintendent Gary Price agreed to lead the district on an interim basis in the summer of 2017 after former Superintendent Shelly Kiblinger left to become superintendent of another district in southeast Kansas. Initially, the interim period was to be a year, but in September 2017, the board asked Price to stay for a second year.

The superintendent’s position will be advertised nationally through the KASB, district and the USA-Kansas websites, as well as through targeted email. The position will also be posted on district and KASB social media. Applications for the position will close Dec. 31.

It’s anticipated formal interviews with finalists will be done during the first full week in January 2019 with the target date for the new superintendent to be hired later in January. The board approved the formal agreement with KASB to do the superintendent search.

The board also approved the negotiated agreement between NEA-Hutchinson and the district as well as administrator benefits and salary matrices for 2018-19.
