A popular summer camp experience is returning to Hutchinson Public Schools.

After an absence of several years, Nate Kluesner, sixth grade teacher at Hutchinson Magnet School at Allen, will direct the camp in Hutchinson. The camp will be June 4 through 8 at the Hutchinson Career and Technical Education Academy, 800 15th Circle.

The program is open to any student who will be in kindergarten through sixth grade in 2012-13 school year. Additionally, seventh and eighth graders can volunteer to be junior counselors.

Camp Invention is a STEM – Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics – based camp that opens up student imaginations. Students will create many different inventions during the modular-style rotations of the camp. Each module will require students to problem solve to create items with a given purpose.

The camp will be taught by highly qualified certified USD 308 staff members. Those teachers include Tab Gray, Shelley Rodriguez, Jen Cochrane and Tina Beeghly.

Registration prior to March 20 costs $190 with the cost going to $215 on March 21. The cost for junior counselors will be $120.

The camp will run from 9 a-m. to 3:30 p-m, each day.

Nationally, the program is part of the nonprofit Invent Now, Inc. Invent Now was founded in 1973 as the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Over the past 38-years, the organization has expanded its mission and has encouraged more than 1.9 million students, teachers, parents and independent inventors to explore science and their own creativity.
