HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After a Reno County jury found a 29-year-old woman “guilty” of aggravated battery, Judge Tim Chambers ordered her to jail for one year.

Sarah Alcorn was found guilty of attacking her boyfriend at the time after the two had an argument.

The case involved her swinging a knife, cutting two of the victim’s fingers. He apparently reached up and that’s when he was wounded.

The jury didn’t buy the contention that she struck the victim in the face or that there was an actual criminal threat made where she allegedly threatened to kill him, so found her “not guilty” of battery and criminal threat.

During sentencing, the defense argued for dispositional departure to community corrections, or at the very least, a durational departure. The state was against any departure considering she has a criminal history score of “A.” Although Judge Chambers wouldn’t agree to corrections, he did agree to reduce the sentence to one year. He did, however, set an appeal bond of $10,000 without anyone asking him to do so.

The crime occurred back on Nov. 19, 2014.
