NEWTON, Ia — A Hutchinson woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Iowa Monday evening.

The Iowa State Patrol says 83-year-old Geraldine Rietveld was going south on Old Highway 392 when she failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 163, and was hit in the passenger side by a westbound SUV driven by 41-year-old Emily Eisentrager of Altoona Iowa.

Rietveld was taken to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines where she was pronounced dead,  while Eisentrager was taken to Mercy Hospital also in Des Moines.

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. about 15 miles east of Des Moines, near the small town of Prairie City.
