The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announced Friday the selection of Monty Montgomery as the organization’s next President.
“Monty brings to Hutchinson and Reno County, a very comprehensive, diverse and well-rounded background in economic development.” said Rick Mitchell, Chamber Board Chairman. “His enthusiasm, drive and passion for our future economic opportunities will be a great asset to this community.”
On his selection, Montgomery commented, “I’m honored that the chamber board feels I can be helpful in the community’s efforts to grow the economy. I look forward to working cooperatively with businesses, local government and the education community to help Reno County prosper.”
Montgomery will succeed Dave Kerr as President after his 5 years with the organization. “I want to compliment the selection committee and the board of directors on the thoroughness of their effort to find a new president. The community will be well served with Monty Montgomery leading the Chamber,” said Kerr. “Monty brings unique skills with his knowledge and expertise at the national and state level on business and economic development issues.
Montgomery will be relocating from West Texas where he has been engaged in developing rural housing and other projects. From 2004 to 2006 he was the executive director of the Seminole, Texas Economic Development Corporation. Previously he was involved in economic development work in Midland and Haskell, Texas as well as Grand Island, Nebraska.
Kent Tyler, chair of the search committee, commented in the hiring process, “Our committee of outstanding community leaders with diverse business interests took their job very seriously. We had more than 65 applications from California to Maryland. At the end of the day, we felt like we had a clear direction and candidate to lead the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce. The stated mission of the Chamber is to be “the catalyst for a prosperous business climate that enhances the community’s quality of life.” The search committee certainly took that mission statement to heart. I can’t think of a better person to continue our recent economic growth and to further enhance the economic health and business climate of Reno County than Monty Montgomery. The committee was unanimous in its selection of Monty and we’re very confident of his ability to provide leadership to the Chamber.
January 16th will be Montgomery’s first day to assume his duties at the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber. Dave Kerr will continue in the role of Chamber President until Montgomery’s arrival.
