HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An accident Thursday afternoon injured two people after their car was struck on the driver’s side as they pulled into the intersection of 5th and Washington.
Police Traffic Sgt. Brian Hirt says a woman driver, identified as 18-year-old Mallory Martinez, was northbound on Washington Street in her silver passenger car. She stopped, then pulled into the intersection and was struck by an eastbound SUV driven by 36-year-old Ryan Leonard.
The impact caused the silver Mercury to spin around. Both vehicles ended up on the northeast side of the intersection.
Mallory Martinez and her father, 45-year-old Robert Martinez, were both transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The accident occurred just before 1:30 p.m.
Martinez was cited for failing to yield at the stop sign.
