Inmate at Sedgwick County Jail dies after hanging himself in his cell

WICHITA – Sedgwick County Jail staff are investigating an attempted suicide inside the facility Thursday morning.

At approximately 10:25 a-m, detention staff found that a 35-year-old male inmate had attempted suicide by hanging in a single person cell.

Detention staff administered aid until the arrival of detention facility medical staff arrived, and they then took over until Sedgwick County E-M-S arrived and the man was taken to a local hospital.

But, around 11:16 a-m, the inmate died from his injuries at the hospital.

The inmate had been booked into the facility earlier this month on a probation violation for driving under the influence of alcohol warrant.
