Internship Program will connect youth to businesses, community

Summer 2012 will mark the launch of a brand new program for Reno County. “Intern Hutch,” will be operated under the direction of the Community Development Division of the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Young Professionals of Reno County.

This program is designed to connect college-aged summer interns with activities and people in Reno County . The goal for the interns is two fold: first, provide a quality learning opportunity at their designated business, second, have interns understand the high quality of life there is in Reno County for a young professional.

Activities for interns will take place in the evenings at least once a week. They will go on group tours of local attractions such as the Cosmosphere and Underground Salt Museum , as well attend professional development trainings. Professional development training topics will vary, but could include topics such as, how to dress for success, and the do’s and don’ts of social media when applying for jobs.

Some activities will be far less formal such as going for a walk on the trails, taking in a Hutchinson Monarchs baseball game, or having a picnic in a park.

Currently, the business is responsible for recruiting the summer interns and then connecting them with the Intern Hutch program.

For more information on the Intern Hutch program, please contact Bailey Stiggins at the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce, baileys@hutchchamber.com.
