A report of a robbery in Hutchinson on Wednesday led to a Hutchinson man being arrested in association with a case involving arson and criminal damage.

It was just after 10 a-m, that 23-year-old Jason Volker of 501 North Main reported that two white males had entered his apartment with a weapon and stole his cell phone.

But, earlier in the morning, around 2:30 a-m, Reno County Fire, Sheriff and Drug Unit detectives were involved in an investigation where they believe a fire was intentionally set on the porch of a home at 8806 South K-17 Highway. There was also a report of car fully engulfed in flames and they then discovered of the remnants of meth lab. Detective Darrian Campbell also indicates they found some bricks with blood on it that appeared to have been used to break windows in the home.

Volker had cuts on his arms when sheriff detectives talked with him at his apartment in the Landmark building. He was arrested on two counts of arson and criminal damage to property, but has since bonded out. The robbery, where his cell phone was taken, may have been retaliation for the arson incident.

Law Enforcement officials say they’re looking for the two individuals who robbed Volker, but also two others who may have knowledge of these two cases.

Sheriff Captain Steve Lutz says the investigation is continuing, and so far no charges have been filed in association with the meth lab. He says it wasn’t a working lab, but the remnants of the lab including drug paraphernalia was discovered.

Volker is free on bond and should make a court appearance sometime next week.
