Still now definite decision on where to build a new proposed county jail. That was the conclusion at a Jail Committee meeting Tuesday evening, but all options are still on the table according to County Administrator Gary Meagher. He says they will meet with Landmark and B-G Consultants on the issue.

Also, no final draft of a contract to hire Treanor Architects even though Dan Rowe indicated he was the one who be hired at the last meeting. Meagher says they are very close to an agreement.

The group also seemed to be leaning towards hiring a bond underwriting firm. They are considering Piper Jaffray as the firm to advise them on the financing side of the proposal. They also agreed that it would be a wise decision to hire a construction manager at risk who would assist the county in deciding issues such handling bidding of different contractors and then over seeing the project should voters approve in increase in the sales tax.

The Sheriff’s Office will also begin public tours of the jail starting on November 20, so that if you wish to see for yourself, the issues that have been talked about concerning the jail you can.

They also plan other events to try to bring a positive spin on the need for a jail including speaking at community group meetings, and retired Judge Steve Becker then suggested that they give personalized tours of the jail to the guest columnist in the local newspaper in the hopes that they would give some positive press. County Commissioner Dan Deming who often writes columns for the paper agreed, but suggested to the judge that they wait until after the holidays.
