Joe Fangman Elected Board President In USD 308

Joe Fangman was elected president of the USD 308 Board of Education for the 2012-13 school term during the annual organizational meeting of the body Monday evening. Mary Lynn Baker was elected vice president.

Monday’s meeting took care of legal, but largely routine business to start the school term.

The Board did hear a report on Common Core Standards from Donna Davis, district executive director for secondary learning. The district is moving forward with Common Core standards in 2012-13. Parents will receive information about the standards throughout the school year.

The board made several annual appointments during the meeting including, Treasurer: Lori Blakesley, Assistant Treasurer: Cindy Hughes, Clerk: Molly Carson and Deputy Clerk: Rick Kraus

In other action, they set regular board meetings for 7 p-m, on the second Monday of each month with an optional meeting on the fourth Monday of each month unless those dates conflict with holidays. As a practical point, the Board routinely meets on the fourth Monday of each month.

They also approved the hourly option for the district calendar. Under state law, the district must have school 1,116 or more hours each year. The previously approved 2012-13 calendar was developed around the hour option.

Set petty cash limits for various schools and activities within the district, approved the destruction of certain district records in accordance with state laws, approved school activity funds for individual schools and internal accounting control measures and approved an early payment request policy to allow certain payments be made prior to board meetings if making those payments will avoid late fees or allow the district to receive a discount for early payment.

They also approved Head Start annual memorandums of understanding with USD 309, USD 310, UISD 312 and USD 313.
